Juan Francisco Mendoza

Mr. Mendoza, “Pancho”, is the founder and director of Roots School of Music in El Paso, Texas. With 24 years of experience as a certified music educator, Pancho has dedicated his career to helping students discover their passion for music while building confidence, discipline, and creativity.
In addition to teaching, Pancho is a lifelong musician and performer. He has been a member of the El Paso ska band Fixed Idea for 34 years, making it one of the longest-running bands in the region. Through decades of performing, recording, and touring, Pancho brings valuable real-world musical experience into the classroom.
At Roots School of Music, Pancho’s mission is to create a welcoming and inspiring environment where students of all ages can develop their musical skills. Whether learning guitar, exploring rhythm, or performing for the first time, students are encouraged to grow both as musicians and as individuals.
Through his work as a teacher, performer, and mentor, Pancho continues to contribute to the musical community in El Paso while helping the next generation of musicians find their voice.

What To Expect

Studying music at Roots School of music, will help students learn how to read music and apply that knowledge to playing their instrument. It is curriculum approach learning and caters to different learning styles. All students are engaged and are assessed through performance within the classroom and/or a small group.
