Meet Our Instructor

Juan Francisco Mendoza

also known as “Pancho,” is a certified educator with over 23 years of experience working with students and adult learners of all ages. As a dedicated music instructor, he has been teaching guitar in both private and group settings for more than two decades.

In addition to his teaching career, Juan is an accomplished musician, songwriter, and performer. He is the founder of Fixed Idea, a pioneering punk band from El Paso, and brings over 33 years of live performance and songwriting experience to his teaching.

Class Offerings

At Roots School of Music, we currently offer group classes for guitar only, designed to build foundational skills in a collaborative and engaging environment. These classes are great for beginners and intermediate players who thrive in a group setting.

We also provide private one-on-one lessons for the following instruments:

Bass
Drums
Piano

Private lessons are tailored to each student’s individual goals, skill level, and musical interests, offering a personalized learning experience that moves at the student’s pace.

What To Expect

Studying music at Roots School of music, will help students learn how to read music and apply that knowledge to playing their instrument. It is curriculum approach learning and caters to different learning styles. All students are engaged and are assessed through performance within the classroom and/or a small group.

We believe music is an essential part of children’s development.

We offer lessons in:

Piano – From classical foundations to contemporary styles, we’ll help you unlock the keys to expression.

Drums – Learn rhythm, technique, and the power of groove. Feel the beat and drive the music forward.

Guitar – Acoustic or electric, beginner chords to advanced riffs — find your voice through six strings.

Bass – Learn how to hold down the low end with groove, feel, and finesse.

Wind Instruments – From saxophone and trumpet to clarinet and flute, we’ll help you master breath control, tone, and musicianship across a range of styles.

Rates

45 Minute lessons:

Drums: $40/Lesson

Piano: $35/ Lesson

Bass: $40/Lesson

Virtual & In-Person guitar classes and private lessons:

$35/Lesson (Each lesson is 45 minutes)

Saturday guitar classes (Each class is 45 minutes): $20/Class

11AM-11:45AM: IN-PERSON BEGINNER – CLASS 1

12PM-12:45PM: IN-PERSON BEGINNER – CLASS 2

Students must have a guitar.

Sign up & pay for the month for classes: $75

Packages for Private Lessons:

Package 1:

This is a 3-month contract.

One lesson a week.

Each lesson is 45 minutes curriculum-based.

$400.00

Package 2:

This is a 6-month contract.
